A 79-year-old Rapid City man has been arrested after police say he caused two crashes within a short period of time Wednesday afternoon.
Officers were first dispatched around 12:15 p.m. to the intersection of East Boulevard and East Kansas City Street. Investigators say a grey sedan ran a stop sign and collided with another vehicle before leaving the scene.
A short time later, police responded to a second crash at East Mall Drive and Tish Boulevard, where a grey sedan had reportedly rear-ended a red SUV.
Police identified the driver of the sedan as Larry Ricklefs of Rapid City. According to authorities, officers observed signs of alcohol impairment and conducted a DUI investigation.
Police say video evidence from the first crash confirmed Ricklefs was also responsible for the earlier hit-and-run collision.
Ricklefs was arrested on charges including DUI, Open Container in a Motor Vehicle, Driving Under Revocation, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Stop Sign Violation, Following Too Closely, and No Proof of Insurance.
He was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
