A 46-year-old Sioux Falls woman was killed Thursday afternoon in a two-motorcycle crash south of Sturgis.
According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the crash happened shortly after 1 p.m. on U.S. Highway 14A near mile marker 50, about two miles south of Sturgis.
Investigators say the woman was riding a 2013 Suzuki Gladius eastbound when a westbound 2013 Victory Jackpot, operated by a 77-year-old man from Wrentham, Massachusetts, failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the centerline, and collided with her motorcycle.
The Sioux Falls woman died from injuries sustained in the crash. Her name has not yet been released pending notification of family members.
The Massachusetts rider suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Sturgis hospital for treatment.
The Highway Patrol says both riders were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
Eastbound lanes of Highway 14A were closed for about an hour while emergency crews responded and investigators processed the scene.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
