South Dakota authorities have officially released the identity of a woman killed in a motorcycle crash near Sturgis last week.
The South Dakota Department of Public Safety says 46-year-old Angelee Kay Glammeier of Sioux Falls died from injuries sustained in a two-motorcycle collision Thursday afternoon on U.S. Highway 14A, about two miles from Sturgis.
According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the crash happened just after 1 p.m. when a westbound motorcycle operated by 77-year-old Darry Warnock Stuart of Wrentham, Massachusetts, failed to negotiate a curve, crossed into the eastbound lane, and collided head-on with Glammeier’s motorcycle.
Officials say Glammeier was wearing a helmet but suffered fatal injuries. Stuart, who was also wearing a helmet, was seriously injured and transported to a Sturgis hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The eastbound lanes of Highway 14A were closed for about an hour following the crash.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accident.
