Brookings Police are investigating an alleged assault that occurred during a high school boys soccer match between Brookings and Rapid City Central.
According to reports, a Brookings player was shoved out of bounds and to the ground during Friday’s game. Officials say the Rapid City Central player then allegedly kicked and punched the Brookings player multiple times.
A second Brookings player reportedly intervened to defend his teammate, leading to a confrontation that delayed the game by about 10 minutes just before halftime.
The Rapid City Central player was escorted away by a coach and did not return to the match.
Brookings Police Chief Michael Drake says the department is investigating the incident as a possible assault.
