The City of Rapid City will break ground later this month on a new fire station, police substation, and city park in one of the city’s fastest-growing areas.
The project will be located near Homestead and Neel Streets on Rapid City’s east side and is designed to improve emergency response times and public safety services as development continues in the area.
City officials say the new facility will house both fire and police operations, allowing for closer coordination between departments while bringing resources closer to neighborhoods and businesses in the east corridor.
The project also includes a new city park featuring green space, walking paths, and recreational areas to serve nearby residents.
The Rapid City Common Council previously approved $9.1 million for the public safety facility and park. Construction is expected to begin this month, with completion anticipated by the end of 2027.
The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for August 24th at 2 p.m. and is open to the public.
