Two people from the Rosebud Sioux Reservation have been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for the 2019 murder of a 15-year-old boy.
Federal prosecutors say 27-year-old Dillion Millard of Rosebud and 31-year-old Charmaine Medicine of Parmelee both pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and were sentenced earlier this month in U.S. District Court.
Authorities say the pair lured the teenager to a secluded area on the Rosebud Reservation in July of 2019, where Millard strangled him. Investigators say the victim’s body was later hung from a tree and set on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence.
The case remained unsolved for several years before a breakthrough came in 2024 when Millard confessed to the crime. A federal grand jury later indicted both defendants.
Hikers discovered the victim’s body on July 10, 2019.
Following sentencing, both defendants were turned over to the U.S. Marshals Service to begin serving their prison terms.
