A 22-year-old Rapid City man has been sentenced to federal prison following convictions on multiple child exploitation charges.
Federal officials say Jesse Luiz Jaso was sentenced August 14th to five years in prison after a jury found him guilty of distributing, receiving, and possessing child sexual abuse material. The five-year sentences on each count will be served concurrently.
According to prosecutors, the investigation began in February of 2023 after the Rapid City Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children unit received a cybertip alleging illegal online activity. Investigators later uncovered evidence that Jaso had obtained and exchanged child sexual abuse material online.
In addition to his prison sentence, Jaso will serve five years of supervised release, pay a fine and assessment, and must register as a sex offender.
The case was investigated by local, state, and federal agencies and prosecuted through the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood initiative, which targets online child exploitation.
Jaso was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service following his sentencing.
