DEADWOOD, S.D. – The Deadwood Public Library is celebrating statewide recognition for both its creativity and commitment to professional development.
The South Dakota State Library recently named Deadwood’s summer reading program decorations among the top five in the state. This year’s “Unearth a Story” theme inspired library staff to transform the children’s area into a jungle-like setting complete with trees, vines and other interactive decorations made largely from recycled materials.
Library officials say the summer program also included hands-on gardening activities, giving children an opportunity to plant, grow and harvest fruits and vegetables.
In addition, every member of the library staff was recognized for voluntarily participating in continuing education through the South Dakota State Library’s accreditation program. The program helps library employees strengthen professional skills and improve services for their communities.
Library Director Kennedy Penk says the recognition is rewarding and reflects the dedication and hard work of the staff.
