SPEARFISH, S.D. – Students returning to West and Mountain View elementary schools in Spearfish next week will be greeted by a familiar face in a new role.
Ashley Anderson has been named principal of the two schools after previously serving as assistant principal. She succeeds Nick Gottlob, who recently became superintendent of the Spearfish School District.
Anderson has been part of the district since 2013, first as a third-grade teacher at Creekside Elementary before moving into school administration in 2021. She holds degrees from Black Hills State University, Chadron State College and the University of South Dakota, with specialized training in reading, math and educational leadership.
Anderson says she’s excited to continue supporting students, teachers and families, with a strong focus on collaboration and student success. She says one of her greatest passions is helping young students learn to read and watching their growth in the classroom.
As principal, Anderson says she looks forward to expanding her work with teachers and helping strengthen educational opportunities for students across both schools.
