RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Rapid City man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon.
Twenty-eight-year-old Wakiyan Dreamer was sentenced August 17 in U.S. District Court. In addition to the prison term, he was ordered to serve three years of supervised release, pay a special assessment, and forfeit the firearm involved in the case.
According to court records, the charge stemmed from a May 2025 shooting at a Rapid City gas station. Investigators recovered a 9-millimeter shell casing after reports of gunfire, and surveillance video later showed Dreamer firing a pistol toward a group of people.
Prosecutors said Dreamer was legally prohibited from possessing firearms because of a prior felony conviction. Authorities say the gun was obtained through a straw purchase made by his significant other, who has since been convicted and sentenced for her role in the case.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Rapid City Police Department. Dreamer was taken into U.S. Marshals custody following sentencing.
