BUFFALO, S.D. — Harding County/Bison found success running the football Friday night, but an early deficit proved too much to overcome in a 34-12 loss to the Philip Scotties.
The Ranchers found themselves in a difficult position by halftime, trailing 27-6 against a Philip team that improved to 2-0 on the season.
Despite the setback, Harding County/Bison showed positive signs offensively, especially on the ground. The Ranchers piled up 217 rushing yards, their highest rushing total of the young season, and consistently moved the ball with their running attack throughout the game.
Harding County/Bison managed two touchdowns in the contest, but Philip’s fast start and balanced offensive effort allowed the Scotties to maintain control from the opening half.
The loss continues a difficult stretch for the Ranchers, who have now dropped three consecutive games dating back to last season. However, the strong rushing performance gives Harding County/Bison something to build on heading into Week 2.
The defeat drops Harding County/Bison to 0-2 on the season, while Philip remains unbeaten at 2-0.
Harding County/Bison will look to turn things around Friday when the Ranchers return home to host Lemmon/McIntosh. Philip will stay at home to face Lead-Deadwood.
