PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has appointed Marlys Big Eagle of Fort Thompson as the state’s Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons Specialist. An enrolled member of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe, Big Eagle brings 27 years of experience with the U.S. Department of Justice, including work as a victim witness coordinator and as the DOJ’s first Native American Outreach Services Liaison focused on MMIP cases.
In her new role, Big Eagle will work with law enforcement, tribal partners and community organizations to improve coordination and support for missing and murdered Indigenous persons investigations. She has also been recognized with the U.S. Attorney General’s Award for Exceptional Service in Indian Country for her advocacy on behalf of victims and Indigenous communities.
