RAPID CITY, S.D. – A 20-year-old Martin man is in custody following a shooting Tuesday night in Rapid City that left one person injured.
Police say officers were responding to an unrelated call in the 700 block of East Anamosa Street around 10:45 p.m. when an officer heard gunshots and saw muzzle flashes coming from a nearby apartment building.
Authorities say they saw the suspected shooter run into an apartment, prompting officers to establish a perimeter while a search warrant was obtained.
Investigators also located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds nearby. The victim was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Four people were ordered out of the apartment, and through witness interviews police identified 20-year-old Cesar Shangreaux of Martin as the alleged shooter. He was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault and taken to the Pennington County Jail.
Police later executed a search warrant and recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.
Investigators say the suspect and victim were known to each other and that the shooting does not appear to have been random. The investigation remains ongoing.
