DEADWOOD, S.D. – Lawrence County Treasurer Deb Tridle says hundreds of local residents received incorrect letters from Wells Fargo claiming the county was no longer sending special assessment tax bills to the bank.
Tridle estimates between 200 and 300 homeowners received the notices, which suggested property owners would have to make those tax payments themselves.
After working with CoreLogic, the company that processes escrow payments for Wells Fargo, county officials determined the letters were sent in error. Tridle says special assessments and property taxes are continuing to be paid normally through escrow accounts.
Residents who received the letters are encouraged to contact Wells Fargo to verify their account information. Anyone with questions can also contact the Lawrence County Treasurer’s Office.
