LEAD, S.D. – Fall visitors to Wind Cave National Park will soon have an opportunity to experience one of the Black Hills’ most recognizable seasonal traditions.
The park’s annual elk bugling programs begin September 14 and run through October 10. Ranger-led programs will be offered three nights each week and include a presentation on elk behavior during the fall breeding season, followed by a trip to a viewing area where visitors may hear the distinctive calls of bull elk.
Park officials recommend bringing a flashlight, a camp chair or blanket, and dressing warmly for the evening programs.
Wind Cave is also continuing its guided cave tours throughout the fall. Visitors can choose from several tour options that range from one to one-and-a-half hours and include varying levels of stairs and walking.
