SPEARFISH, S.D. — The Spearfish Spartans volleyball team finished its weekend with a split, falling to Aberdeen Central before bouncing back with a straight-set victory over Pierre.
On Friday, Spearfish dropped a 3-1 decision to Aberdeen Central despite winning the opening set. The Spartans took the first set 25-22, but the Golden Eagles responded by winning the next three sets 25-18, 25-19 and 25-12. The loss was Spearfish’s third straight defeat and dropped the Spartans to 6-8 on the season.
Julia Billington led the Spartans with 14 kills, while Piper Jacobs dished out 18 assists. Addison Keller added two service aces.
Spearfish quickly turned things around Saturday, defeating Pierre in straight sets, 27-25, 25-17 and 25-20. The win prevented the Governors from earning their first victory of the season.
The Spartans showed resilience after Friday’s loss, regrouping to finish the weekend on a positive note. Spearfish now sits at 7-8 overall as it looks to build momentum following the sweep of Pierre, as they head to 8-1 Rapid City Stevens on Tuesday. That contest will be broadcast live on KDSJ Radio, KDSJ980.com, and streamed on KDSJ-TV on YouTube and on Facebook Live.
