MITCHELL, S.D. – More than 120 South Dakota Army National Guard soldiers are back home after spending more than 10 months overseas.
The 665th Support Maintenance Company returned to South Dakota on September 19 after a 308-day deployment to Germany in support of military operations across Europe. Soldiers were welcomed home by family, friends, and community members during a ceremony at Mitchell High School.
During the deployment, the unit supported 30 military units, moved more than 600 disabled vehicles and completed more than 3,800 maintenance work orders.
Unit Commander Captain Kasey Lanning praised the families, friends and community organizations that supported soldiers throughout the deployment, saying their encouragement helped keep troops connected to home.
Governor Larry Rhoden, National Guard leaders and members of South Dakota’s congressional delegation were on hand to thank the soldiers for their service.
The ceremony officially marked the end of the unit’s active-duty mission and returned the soldiers to their families, employers, and communities across South Dakota.
