PINE RIDGE, S.D. – A Pine Ridge man will spend the next decade in federal prison after being sentenced Monday for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in Martin.
Richard Garnette previously pleaded guilty to abusive sexual contact. Court documents show Garnette admitted to drinking with the victim and relatives before assaulting the girl under a bridge in September 2024 while both were intoxicated.
Investigators later found Garnette’s DNA in the victim’s underwear.
A federal judge sentenced Garnette to 10 years in prison. After his release, he will also serve five years of supervised release.
