STURGIS, S.D. – The City of Sturgis is developing its 2027 budget, with officials working to balance rising costs against expected revenues.
Mayor Rod Bradley told the City Council that city leaders have spent the past several weeks reviewing department expenses, revenue projections, and funding needs. The city started with its current $10 million General Fund budget and identified about $300,000 in one-time expenses that are not expected to continue into next year.
However, officials say increased costs for wages, utilities, dispatch services, auditing, information technology and cybersecurity are expected to offset much of those savings.
The city is also reviewing revenue from enterprise funds, including water, wastewater, sanitation, ambulance and liquor store operations, to determine how much support they can provide to the General Fund. Sales tax revenue, including collections from the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, will also play a key role in the final budget.
The Sturgis City Council has until the end of November to approve the 2027 budget. Officials say the goal is to maintain essential city services while creating a sustainable financial plan for the future.
