RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City Police are investigating a fatal vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash that occurred Wednesday night on West Omaha Street.
Officers were called to the 1400 block of West Omaha Street around 8:40 p.m. after reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. First responders found an adult man in the roadway and performed life-saving measures before he was transported to a local hospital.
Police say the man later died from his injuries. His identity is being withheld until family members have been notified.
Investigators say witness statements indicate the victim was crossing West Omaha Street outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a westbound vehicle.
The Rapid City Police Department’s Critical Accident Reconstruction Team is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Motorists were advised to avoid the area Wednesday night as portions of West Omaha Street were closed for the investigation.
