SPEARFISH, S.D. – A Spearfish business is stepping up to help a local family facing a cancer diagnosis.
Kernels and Kandies donated 10 percent of its sales Wednesday to support Allan and Renee Collins of Belle Fourche. Organizers say Allan Collins is undergoing treatment at the Mayo Clinic after being diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
Store manager Caitlin Hayden says the Collins family has deep roots in the area and that the fundraiser was a way to help during a difficult time.
Family members say the community has rallied around the couple, providing support and encouragement throughout Allan’s treatment journey.
Additional fundraisers are planned in the coming weeks, including a raffle, a chili cook-off in Rapid City, and a benefit auction in November. A benefit account has also been established at Northern Hills Federal Credit Union to assist the family with expenses.
