RAPID CITY, S.D. – Peyton VanDeest continued her outstanding season Saturday, winning the girls individual championship and leading the Spearfish Spartans at the Rapid City Invitational at Hart Ranch Resort.
VanDeest crossed the finish line in 17 minutes, 31.2 seconds, capturing first place and helping the Spearfish girls earn a fourth-place team finish against a strong field.
The Spartans placed six runners among the top finishers. Taisley Tetrault was next for Spearfish, taking 25th place in 20:17.6. Naomi Pfaff finished 33rd in 20:51.1, followed closely by Auna Taglioli in 34th at 20:51.9.
Sophia Hatleli added a 51st-place finish in 21:18.6, while Trinity Hourigan rounded out the scoring effort in 116th place with a time of 23:52.3.
The victory adds to an already impressive season for VanDeest, who previously won the Northern Hills Invitational and placed second at the Nike Heartland Preview.
On the boys side, Rylan VanDeest led the Spartans with a strong third-place finish, completing the course in 15:53.9.
Spearfish had three runners finish inside the top 16. Carter Thompson placed 14th in 16:31.0, while Mason Gill finished 16th in 16:37.5.
Roman Jeffery added a 32nd-place finish in 17:12.1, followed by Bastian Gonzales in 40th at 17:25.7 and Anthony Stevens in 54th at 17:51.5.
Ian Cho finished 90th in 18:53.7, Tanner Gottlob placed 104th in 19:28.9, and Alex Albrecht crossed the line 113th in 19:51.6.
