KEYSTONE, S.D. – Motorists traveling through Keystone should plan for detours beginning Monday as a major bridge replacement project gets underway on U.S. Highway 16A.
The South Dakota Department of Transportation says Highway 16A will be closed at the intersection with Highway 40 starting October 5 while crews replace a bridge. Temporary traffic signals and a marked detour route will direct traffic during the closure.
Drivers should also be aware of a 12-foot width restriction and a 50-foot length restriction throughout the project. Highway 16A is expected to reopen by April 2027.
The project carries a price tag of 2-point-2 million dollars and is being completed by Rapid City-based Complete Concrete Incorporated. The overall project is scheduled for completion in May of 2027.
