SPEARFISH, S.D. – A major road improvement project in downtown Spearfish is on schedule and expected to wrap up this week.
City officials say crews with Johner and Sons have completed the milling and asphalt overlay on Main Street between Grant Street and Jackson Boulevard. Workers are now finishing pavement markings and other final touches before reopening the roadway to traffic.
The project required the closure of downtown Main Street earlier this week to allow crews to mill the old surface, pave new asphalt, apply a fog seal, and complete striping. Pedestrian access has remained open on sidewalks, but parking and vehicle traffic have been restricted.
Spearfish Public Works Director Adam McMahon says the project is expected to be completed Friday. The street will temporarily reopen at 2 p.m. for the Spearfish High School Homecoming Parade before crews return to finish any remaining work.
City officials are inviting residents to line the sidewalks and enjoy the parade as it travels through downtown on the newly resurfaced Main Street.
