FARGO, N.D. – A Rapid City man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was found with life-threatening injuries in eastern North Dakota.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded Tuesday afternoon to a report of an injured person near Wild Rice, about five miles south of Fargo. When deputies arrived, they found a woman suffering from severe injuries. She was transported to a Fargo hospital, where she remained under treatment as of Wednesday evening.
Authorities arrested 60-year-old Tracy Vaughn Peters of Rapid City at a south Fargo apartment complex Wednesday afternoon. The arrest was carried out without incident by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Metro Area Street Crimes Unit, and the U.S. Marshals Task Force.
Sheriff Jesse Jahner says investigators moved quickly after gathering information and conducting interviews.
Court records show Peters was previously convicted in federal court for assault resulting in substantial injury to an intimate partner in a 2016 case in Eagle Butte.
No formal charges had been filed as of Wednesday, and the investigation remains ongoing.
