SPEARFISH, S.D. – Drivers and residents near Grant and 12th Streets in Spearfish may notice construction activity beginning Friday as the city starts a sewer improvement project.
City officials say crews from Municipal Pipe Tool Company of Hudson, Iowa, will repair aging sewer lines using a trenchless method known as cured-in-place pipe, or CIPP. The process creates a new pipe inside the existing sewer line, reducing the need for excavation and minimizing disruptions to roads, homes, and businesses.
Residents can expect to see work trucks, hoses, crews, and steam in the area while repairs are underway. Officials also warn that a temporary chemical odor may be noticeable during the pipe-curing process, although a bubblegum fragrance will be added to help reduce the smell.
The city is encouraging residents to run water in unused sinks, tubs, and floor drains to make sure plumbing P-traps remain full and prevent vapors from entering homes.
Anyone with questions can contact the Spearfish Public Works Department.
