HILL CITY, S.D. – The Lead-Deadwood Golddiggers closed out the regular season with a loss Friday night, falling to Hill City 45-35 in a high-scoring Black Hills matchup.
Hill City snapped a four-game losing streak with the victory and finished the regular season at 2-and-6, while Lead-Deadwood dropped to 4-and-4.
Despite the loss, the Golddiggers secured a spot in the Class 9AA playoffs as the 10th seed. Lead-Deadwood will hit the road Thursday to take on seventh-seeded Great Plains Lutheran in the opening round of the postseason. This is the first playoff berth for the Golddiggers since 2022, and the first time as a nine-man school.
Hill City’s season will continue as well. The Rangers claimed the 16th and final playoff spot and will travel to face top-seeded and undefeated Parkston in the first round.
For Lead-Deadwood, the focus now shifts to the playoffs as the Golddiggers look to make a postseason run after finishing the regular season with four wins in their last six games.
