RAPID CITY, S.D. – Pennington County Search and Rescue is being credited with safely rescuing a stranded rock climber from Old Baldy Mountain over the weekend.
According to Pennington County Fire Services, the climber became stuck on the rock face Saturday night. Rescue crews were able to reach the individual, make contact, and safely guide the climber back to the ground.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
Search and Rescue officials praised the climbing party for making the right decision by staying secured in place and calling for help rather than attempting a dangerous self-rescue.
Officials say that decision played a key role in ensuring a safe outcome for everyone involved.
