SPEARFISH, S.D. – The City of Spearfish has temporarily taken one of its municipal wells offline after residents on the east side of town reported an unusual odor in their water.
According to city officials, the Sky Ridge well has been removed from service while crews investigate the source of the issue. Public Works Director Adam McMahon says the water remains safe to drink and use and has passed all required health and safety tests.
To help clear the system, city crews are flushing hydrants throughout the affected area. Officials do not expect any interruptions to water service during the process.
Residents who notice an odor in their water are encouraged to run their cold-water faucets for at least five minutes to help flush household plumbing.
The city says the Sky Ridge well will be returned to service once it has been fully evaluated. Anyone with questions or concerns can contact the Spearfish Public Works Department.
City officials emphasize that the issue is related to odor only and that the water remains safe for all uses.
