RAPID CITY, S.D. – As Halloween decorations come down and jack-o’-lanterns begin to fade, the City of Rapid City’s Solid Waste Division is offering residents guidance on how to properly dispose of or recycle common Halloween items.
Officials say non-working holiday light strings can be recycled at the Rapid City Landfill or at one of several holiday light collection sites located throughout the city.
Used pumpkins can be placed in the garbage, added to backyard compost piles or taken to designated yard waste collection bins at Fitzgerald Stadium, the Nickel Street location, or the Rapid City Landfill.
Residents are encouraged to reuse or donate costumes and masks whenever possible. If they can no longer be used, they should be thrown away.
Candy wrappers, glow sticks, stretchy spider webs and similar Halloween materials should also be placed in the trash.
For additional recycling and disposal information, residents can contact the Solid Waste Division or visit the city’s recycling website.
