RAPID CITY, S.D. – A multi-agency rescue effort near Falling Rock west of Rapid City helped bring an injured individual to safety Wednesday morning.
The Johnson Siding Fire Department responded around 11 a.m. to reports of a person who had suffered injuries after a long fall. Rescue crews from several agencies, including Pennington County Search and Rescue, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Forest Service, and Rapid City Fire Department Medic 5, assisted in the operation.
Responders evaluated and treated the patient at the scene before carefully packaging them for extraction. Crews then hoisted the individual up the cliff face, transferred them to a waiting ambulance, and transported them to a hospital for further treatment.
Johnson Siding Fire officials say the rescue showcased the strong cooperation between emergency response agencies in the Black Hills, noting that the challenging operation would have been difficult for any one department to handle alone.
Officials also thanked mutual aid partners and 911 dispatchers for their support during the rescue.
