NeighborWorks Dakota Home Resources welcomes home a new family at the corner of 8th and Aurora in Belle Fourche, SD. The lot with a long history of decay will host a housewarming for the new family of the 805 Aurora home on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at 3:00 pm.
From decay and rubble, to ashes to the foundation for memories made in a new home, this lot has a history that reflects the power of a cohesive and collaborative community coming together for a common purpose.
This project is not only a housewarming for the new resident, but a celebration of the redevelopment of this neighborhood and the partners that helped make this happen. Such as, the City of Belle Fourche who waived dump fees to help clean up this lot, the Belle Fourche Volunteer Fire Department who used the home as a training day for new Firefighters, Belle Fourche Economic Development who helped bring partners together, South Dakota Housing’s Governors Home Program for supplying the home for the new resident and many more volunteers and helping hands.
This new SD Housing Governors Home replaced a dilapidated home that was formerly on this lot. This lot at 8th & Aurora happens to be located in the heart of redevelopment district #1. Its construction completes redevelopment of all four corners of this intersection. NeighborWorks Dakota Home Resources has brought 4 new homes to the neighborhood, the City of Belle Fourche invested in improving Gay Park, and the neighbor across the street built his new home. This is a great example of people working together to accomplish a common goal.
“The transformation of this property was definitely a group effort so we want to recognize our partners at this celebration,” said NeighborWorks Dakota Home Resources executive director, Mike Walker.
