The Black Hills State University volleyball team announced their 2025 schedule on Tuesday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets schedule includes the classic 14-game RMAC calendar with regional and power pod matchups as well as two non-conference tournaments in North Dakota and Nebraska.
The Grayson DuBose era will begin in Chadron, Nebraska on September 4-6 where they will face two South Dakota foes in Augustana on September 4 and Northern State on September 6 while also facing off against UMary and Saint Martin’s University on September 5. BHSU has won six of the last seven matches versus the UMary Marauders but dropped their most recent matchup in a five-set thriller, so BHSU will look to get back in the win column this season.
Then BHSU heads to Minot, North Dakota in mid-September to try to build on our three-game win streak over the Minot State Beavers on September 12. The team will also face two Canadian schools in Brandon University on September 11 and University of Manitoba on September 12, while also facing UMary again on September 11.
BHSU will start their conference schedule in mid-September when the go on the road to face Fort Lewis on September 19 and Western Colorado on September 20. The Jackets will look to tie the all-time series versus Western as it currently sits at 7-8 with Black Hills looking to get back in the win column versus the Mountaineers.
A2 Arena will host its first volleyball weekend of the year on September 26 when Colorado Christian comes into town along with CSU Pueblo the next night on September 27. The games will be at 6:00 and 5:30 respectively.
The next week is the first time the Yellow Jackets will see SD Mines and Chadron State in the RMAC Regional Pod, with the SD Mines game happening on September 30 in Rapid City and the Chadron State game happening at home on October 4. BH has lost four straight to the Eagles and this matchup will be the first of three meetings of these teams this year. The Hardrockers have won five of the last seven matchups, but BHSU currently holds the matchup lead at 34-20.
The Jackets will go on the road to face their first of two RMAC teams to make the Division II Tournament in MSU Denver on October 10. BHSU will look to beat the Roadrunners for the first time in team history. They will also face UCCS on October 11 that road trip as well.
BHSU will then come back to A2 Arena to face Adams State on October 17 and look to get a win versus the Grizzlies for the first time since 2021. They will then face Highlands on October 18 for the first of two meetings this season. The Yellow Jackets took down the Cowgirls to snap their 25-game RMAC losing streak last year. Finally, the Yellow Jackets will end their home stand with the second game at A2 Arena versus Chadron State on October 21.
At the end of October, the Yellow Jackets will head to Chadron to face the Eagles on October 30 as well as New Mexico Highlands on October 31 in the RMAC Power Pod.
The Jackets will go on their final road trip in early November when they face Colorado School of Mines on November 7 and SD Mines on November 11. BHSU will look to snap a 13-game losing streak versus the Orediggers.
DuBose and the Jackets will finish their regular season at home with Colorado Mesa, who was the second RMAC team to make the NCAA DII Tournament, on November 14. The Jackets haven’t beaten the Mavericks since 2016, so this will be a chance at redemption. The last game of the regular season will be on November 15 versus Westminster. The series is currently split 6-6 versus the Griffins, but they have lost the last two in a row.
The RMAC Tournament will begin shortly after the final regular season game on November 18-22, and the first round will be hosted by the top four seeds with the highest remaining seed hosting the semifinals and championship games.
