Tax collections from the 2025 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally totaled $1.58 million, marking a 13% increase over last year’s $1.4 million, the South Dakota Department of Revenue reported.
State sales tax made up the largest portion at $901,513, up from $790,805 in 2024. The rally also generated $299,619 in state tourism tax and $380,604 in municipal taxes, according to the department.
Vendor participation surged 32 percent to 1,181 temporary vendors compared to 2024, the department said.
The Northern Black Hills region, which includes Sturgis and surrounding communities in Meade and Lawrence counties, saw 1,069 vendors generate $1.17 million in tax revenue — an 18% increase from last year. The Southern Black Hills, including Rapid City, Custer, Hill City and Keystone, had 112 vendors that brought in $412,436 in tax collections.
The figures include revenues from state sales tax, tourism tax, municipal sales tax and municipal gross receipts tax, the department said.
