Two teams searching for their second win of the season will meet tonight as the Belle Fourche Broncs (1-5) travel to face the Custer Wildcats (1-5) in a Black Hills Conference showdown. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. at Custer Football Field.
Both squads are coming off lopsided losses to Class 11B opponents. Belle Fourche fell 51-0 to No. 2-ranked St. Thomas More, while Custer dropped a 51-13 decision to Hot Springs.
Offensive consistency remains a challenge for both programs. The Broncs, led by second-year head coach Sean Sweet, have scored more than 20 points just once this season—in a 38-22 win over Lead-Deadwood. Custer, under second-year head coach Russell Evans, has yet to surpass the 20-point mark in any game this fall.
Defensively, the Wildcats have struggled, allowing an average of 46.8 points per game, which could present an opportunity for Belle Fourche to find rhythm on offense. Likewise, it could be said for the Wildcats, as the Broncs allow just under 38 points per game this season. Both teams earned their lone victories against Lead-Deadwood earlier in the season.
Tonight’s matchup not only offers a chance for redemption but also a potential milestone for Custer, which seeks back-to-back wins over Belle Fourche for the first time since 2011–2012.
Expect a competitive contest tonight, as these evenly matched teams square off in the southern Black Hills.
