The Spearfish girls basketball team (4-4) came up short on Tuesday night, falling 50–40 to St. Thomas More (9-3) in Rapid City. This marks the Spartans’ second straight loss in back-to-back games.
Spearfish stayed within reach throughout the game but couldn’t overcome STM’s balanced scoring attack. Kate Scharf led the Spartans with 12 points, returning more to her former self, while Adelyn Bouman added 11 in a strong offensive showing. Despite the effort, Spearfish was unable to record a fourth-straight win over the Cavaliers.
The loss drops the Spartans to 4–4, with a home-stretch of tough Class AA teams approaching on the schedule. Spearfish has now dropped back-to-back games and will look to regroup quickly as they return home later this week.
St. Thomas More, meanwhile, improved to 9–3 and has now won seven of its last eight games. The Cavaliers were led by Leighton Scherr with 12 points, while Enna Henry and Rachael Hyde each finished with eight.
St. Thomas More continues its homestand Thursday night against Sturgis Brown. Spearfish will try to get back on track on the same night, when they host Rapid City Central at 6 p.m. That game will be broadcast on KDSJ 980 AM, 103.5 FM, kdsj980.com, and the KDSJ Mobile App. Fans can watch the game on KDSJ-TV on YouTube or on KDSJ’s Facebook Live.
