The Spearfish girls basketball team used a strong second‑half surge to defeat Rapid City Central 43–36 on Thursday night, snapping a two‑game skid and improving to 5–4 on the season.
After a defensive battle in the first half, the Spartans took control by outscoring the Cobblers 16–6 in the third quarter, creating the separation they needed to close out the win.
Senior Kate Scharf led Spearfish with 13 points, while seniors Adelyn Bouman and junior Sierra Sanford added nine points each. Bouman provided a lift from the perimeter, and Sanford attacked the lane to complement Scharf’s scoring.
Defensively, Spearfish tightened up after halftime, holding Central to just 18 second‑half points while scoring 28 of their own. Despite being undersized, the Spartans also won the rebounding battle — an area head coach Dakota Johnson said had been lacking in recent games.
Rapid City Central (4–6) was led by Cloee Kruise with 14 points and Leah Landry with 10.
The Cobblers now head east for matchups in Watertown against Brookings and the Arrows on Friday and Saturday. Spearfish travels to Box Elder for a Saturday afternoon game against Douglas at 1 p.m. The contest will be streamed on KDSJ‑TV on YouTube and Facebook Live.
