The Spearfish girls basketball team delivered one of its most dominant performances of the season Tuesday night, defeating Lead‑Deadwood 62–8 for its third straight win. The victory improves the Lady Spartans to 7–4, while the Golddiggers fall to 3–13.
Spearfish set the tone immediately, scoring 26 unanswered points in the opening quarter and holding Lead‑Deadwood scoreless in two of the four periods. The eight points allowed marked the lowest total the Spartans have given up this season and the lowest offensive output of the year for the Golddiggers.
Senior guard Kate Scharf led Spearfish with 16 points, including 14 in the first quarter. The Spartans knocked down nine three‑pointers and matched their season‑high scoring total for the second straight game.
Spearfish used its depth throughout the night, with every varsity player seeing the floor and all but two recording points. Anna Eisenbarth added 10 points, while Avery Rauterkus finished with nine and earned Superior Performer honors for her rebounding and interior passing. Freshman Kingsley Schweigert chipped in eight, hitting a pair of threes, while Tylee Tetrault scored four and Megan Markovitz added two.
Lead‑Deadwood managed just two scorers in the game. Zayah Thorp and Hennessey Mattson each finished with four points, scoring once in the second quarter and once in the third.
The loss is the Golddiggers’ fourth in their last five outings. They return home Friday to face Hill City (9–7).
Spearfish, now winners of three straight, returns to Class AA play Friday when it hosts Huron (6–7) in a key matchup with SoDak 16 implications. The game will air on KDSJ 980 AM, 103.5 FM, and stream on KDSJ980.com, the KDSJ Mobile App, KDSJ‑TV on YouTube, and KDSJ Radio on Facebook Live.
