HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams went back-and-forth for the first 20 points, with neither team making two baskets in a row leading to a 10-10 tie through the first 5:48. Adams went on a 5-0 run with a three-pointer from Nakya Blakley to make it 15-10. BHSU answered with a 10-2 run that included a three pointer and a layup from Maureen Ulrich, a three pointer from Brinlee McRae and a jumper from Emily Cooper to make it 20-17. McRae finished with nine points in the first quarter.
- Taejhuan Hill started the quarter with a layup, and then Schlabs went on a solo 4-0 run to keep the lead at 24-19. After each team making three shots, Adams went on a 4-0 to tie the game at 30. Schlabs hit another three and McRae hit a jumper to make it 35-30. Ashiian Hunter made a jumper and Serlen got a tip-in to send BHSU into half up 37-32.
- Bradie Schlabs and Brinlee McRae each had 11 points in the first half, while Schlabs had three assists and three rebounds while McRae had three rebounds. Ulrich had seven points and three rebounds as well. For Adams, Hunter had 11 points and 4 rebounds.
- Hunter started the half with a three pointer to make it 37-35. BHSU found another gear immediately by going on a 16-4 run with eight points from Schlabs, and baskets from Audrey Norville, Sawyer Stoebner, Ulrich, and Maddie Geiver. This gave BHSU a 14-point 53-39 lead before Blakley made a jumper to cut it to 53-41 going into the fourth quarter.
- After Jada Price started the fourth quarter on a layup, Serlen and Stoebner each made layups to make it 57-43. Adams went on an 8-2 run with a three from Hunter before Schlabs made a jumper to get the lead back to double-digits at 61-51. The Grizzlies scored ten of the next 12 points with eight of them coming from the charity stripe to get the lead all the way down to two at 63-61. Schlabs hit two free throws to make it 65-61 and Hill missed a layup while Ulrich went one of two from the line to make it 66-61. Elaina Watson made a layup and then off an inbounds pass, McRae made an open layup on a great pass from Schlabs to make it 68-63. Hunter hit a clutch three to make it 68-66. Schlabs missed both free throws with seven seconds left, but Adams State was unable to get a shot off in that time and BHSU pulled off the 68-66 upset.
- This win not only put BHSU into a tie for second in the RMAC, but it kept ASU’s head coach Mario Caetano from passing current BHSU head coach Kelly Kruger on the Adams State all-time win total as they currently both sit with 96 wins.
