Rapid City police detained a juvenile early Monday morning after responding to a report of a gunshot on the city’s north side. Officers were called to the 100 block of East Watertown Street around 4:20 a.m. after a resident reported hearing a single shot.
While searching the area, officers saw two males running on Adams Street. Both fled when approached, and one appeared to be carrying an object. Police say the juvenile tripped, revealing a loaded semiautomatic rifle with the safety set to fire.
An officer ordered him to drop the weapon, and he complied. Police also recovered several drug‑related items from the juvenile.
He has been entered into the juvenile justice system, and the investigation into the reported gunshot is still ongoing.
