Police in Lead arrested a 47‑year‑old man Tuesday night after a domestic assault that involved a knife and left an elderly victim injured.
Officers were called to a home on Miners Avenue just before 9:40 p.m. after a 911 caller reported that the suspect was armed, making threats, and that an elderly man inside had suffered cuts and lacerations. Authorities say the victims were able to lock themselves in a back room until help arrived.
When police and sheriff’s deputies reached the home, the suspect — identified as Mickey Yost of Lead — was outside still holding the knife. Officers used a less‑lethal method to disarm him before taking him into custody. Yost now faces assault charges and accusations of violating court orders. The investigation continues.
One Lead police officer was hurt during the incident but is expected to be okay.
Lead Police were assisted by Deadwood Police, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, and Lead‑Deadwood Ambulance. Officials say there is no ongoing threat to the public and encourage anyone with additional information to contact law enforcement.
