The Spearfish Spartan High School Baseball team opens its season Friday night with a road game against the Huron Tigers in Sturgis.
Spearfish returns a veteran roster but will rely on new contributors, especially on the mound. Senior Sean Sewell steps into the number one pitcher role, filling the spot left by Jack Branum. With Sewell moving to the mound, positions at first base and shortstop remain open. Walker Viessman will take over at catcher and is also expected to pitch.
Huron struggled last season, but Spearfish Head Coach Parker Louks says his team isn’t taking anything for granted, noting, “Anyone can beat anyone on any given night.”
The Tigers play two games Friday—5 p.m. vs Spearfish and 7:30 p.m. vs Sturgis—at Strong Field. Coverage begins at 5 p.m. on KDSJ 980 AM, 103.5 FM, online at kdsj980.com, and on the KDSJ Sports mobile app. Fans can also watch live on KDSJ-TV via YouTube and Facebook.
