The Oglala Sioux Tribe is rolling out new safety measures on BIA Route 2 in Kyle after a high number of crashes in the area. The speed limit between 3 Mile Creek Road and the Five Mile turn has been reduced to 45 miles per hour, with new signs now posted.
Tribal Public Safety officials say the stretch has been the site of repeated serious accidents, including a deadly crash in February where first responders and local residents entered freezing water to rescue victims.
Drivers are urged to slow down, stay alert, and expect increased law enforcement patrols. Officials say the changes are meant to prevent further tragedies and protect lives.
