A Pine Ridge woman has been sentenced to nearly six years in federal prison for a violent assault that left another woman with serious injuries. Federal prosecutors say 37-year-old Jessie Sutton was given a 70-month sentence, followed by three years of supervised release, after pleading guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury and aiding and abetting.
Investigators say Sutton and her sister attacked another woman on the Pine Ridge Reservation, repeatedly striking her in the head and body. The victim suffered brain injuries and required emergency surgery. The case was prosecuted in federal court under the Major Crimes Act, which covers serious offenses committed in Indian Country.
