A federal jury has found 34-year-old Dalton Hump of Faith guilty of first-degree burglary. Prosecutors say Hump broke into a home in Ziebach County on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation on July 10, 2024, and assaulted two people inside before being forced out of the residence.
The conviction carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison, along with a possible $250,000 fine and five years of supervised release. The case was handled in federal court under the Major Crimes Act, which requires certain violent crimes in Indian Country to be prosecuted federally. A presentence investigation is underway, and sentencing has not yet been scheduled.
