Spearfish erupted for a seven‑run second inning and held off a late Belle Fourche rally to secure a 14–12 victory Friday at Black Hills Power Sports Complex.
Belle Fourche opened the scoring in the first on a Carsyn Hahne RBI single, but Spearfish quickly seized control in the bottom of the second. The Spartans sent 11 batters to the plate, producing seven runs on three hits, highlighted by a two‑run single from Tucker Viessman.
Spearfish led 14–6 entering the seventh before the Broncs mounted a final push. Belle Fourche scored six runs on just one hit in the inning, capitalizing on two errors, two walks, and a hit‑by‑pitch. Hahne added an RBI single to pull the Broncs within two, but the comeback fell short.
Sean Sewell earned the win for Spearfish, striking out 10 over 5⅓ innings while allowing five runs on six hits. Belle Fourche starter Caeyn Howard took the loss after giving up seven runs—two earned—in 1⅔ innings.
Spearfish finished with 11 hits, led by leadoff hitter Darin Crooks, who went 3‑for‑3 and drew two walks. Viessman drove in four runs and collected two hits, while Jack Scharf added two hits and recorded the save. The Spartans were aggressive on the bases, stealing seven bags.
Hahne and Howard each had two hits for Belle Fourche, while Hahne, Howard, and Graham VanderBoom drove in two runs apiece. The Broncs drew seven walks and turned two double plays.
Spearfish (3-3) travels to Chamberlain to face Yankton on today, while the Broncs (0-2) take on the Sturgis Scoopers on Monday.
