The Spearfish Spartans fell 9–4 to the Stevens Raiders on Tuesday after Stevens built an early lead that Spearfish couldn’t erase.
The Raiders struck quickly at the top of the first, scoring three runs on a two-run triple by Tucker Waddell and a Spartan error. Another defensive miscue in the second inning extended the Stevens lead to 4–2.
Spearfish starter Walker Viessman worked four and one third innings, allowing eight hits and eight runs—six earned—while striking out seven and walking two. Stevens countered with left-hander Caidan Comparetto, who held the Spartans to three hits and two unearned runs over four innings with eight strikeouts. Jace Thompson closed the final one and two-thirds innings without allowing a run.
Stevens finished with 11 hits, including multi-hit games from Isaac Robinson, Conor Konvalin, and Karter Brager, who also stole three bases. The Raiders swiped five bags overall.
Spearfish found offensive sparks in the middle and bottom of the lineup. Connor Johnson and Jack Scharf drove in one run each, while No. 9 hitter Cooper Chase led the Spartans with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. Johnson was the Superior Performer of the game.
Spearfish will look to clean up defensive miscues and establish some hits as they continue their schedule vs Rapid City Central on Monday. The Spartans’ contests vs Douglas on Thursday and vs Brandon Valley on Saturday were postponed due to weather. First Pitch from Spearfish vs the Cobblers is slated for 7:00 pm on KDSJ Radio, KDSJ-TV on YouTube, and on Facebook.
