A seventh‑inning surge wasn’t enough for Spearfish on Thursday as the Spartans fell 9–6 to Stevens, remaining winless all‑time against the Raiders at 0–5.
Despite out‑hitting Stevens 10–9, Spearfish spent the afternoon playing from behind. The Raiders built early separation with a two‑run single by Macy Muth in the second inning, followed by RBI doubles from Joslyn Thompson and Taylor Kokesh in the third to make it 4–0. Izabella Phelps added a two‑run homer in the fifth as the Raiders stretched the lead to 8–2.
Spearfish mounted its biggest push in the top of the seventh. Rozlyn Dobson tripled to drive in a run, and Emme Johnson followed with a two‑run homer to left, trimming the deficit to 9–6 before the rally stalled.
Johnson pitched 6 2/3 innings for Spearfish, allowing nine runs while striking out two. Audrinna Colhoff earned the win for Stevens, striking out seven over five innings.
Dobson, Liv Johnson, and Emme Johnson each recorded two hits for Spearfish, with Dobson driving in three. Phelps led Stevens with four RBI on a 2‑for‑2 day, while Thompson, Muth, and Phelps all posted multi‑hit performances.
Saturday’s game with Tea Area has been postponed to April 28th. Therefore, the Spartans (0-3) will take on Pierre next Friday in Sturgis. Rapid City Stevens (2-0) will host Sturgis on Monday.
