The South Dakota Highway Patrol will conduct sobriety checkpoints in 21 counties throughout May as part of an effort to reduce impaired driving and improve roadway safety. The checkpoints will take place in counties including Brule, Butte, Codington, Davison, Edmunds, Hamlin, Hanson, Jackson, Jerauld, Lawrence, Lincoln, Meade, Minnehaha, Moody/Lake, Pennington, Roberts, Sanborn, Spink, Stanley, and Yankton.
The operation is funded by the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety and carried out in partnership with local law enforcement. Officials are reminding drivers to plan ahead, use a designated driver, or arrange a ride if they’ll be drinking.
