Organizers behind a proposed constitutional amendment to abolish property taxes have fallen short of the number of signatures needed to move the measure forward this year.
Supporters of the proposal had six months to gather more than 350 signatures after launching the petition drive last fall. Organizer Mike Mueller says holidays and winter weather made it difficult to reach voters.
Julie Frye‑Mueller thanked volunteers and those who signed the petition for their support.
The group will have another opportunity. Organizers now have 18 months to collect signatures to place the amendment on the statewide ballot during the 2028 election cycle.
